Houston, we have liftoff!

StartupWeekend, an idea that originated with Andrew Hyde in Boulder, Colorado has reached the Bayou City. StartupWeekend Houston kicked off Friday at Stag’s Head Pub and has continued nearly nonstop through the entire weekend at the offices of The Method Agency.

The goal of creating a company from idea to launch over the course of a weekend has resulted in a company called TipDish.

TipDish is the online directory and distribution service that connects companies, organizations, PR and Marketing Professionals with the leaders and influencers in social media (bloggers, podcasters, viral video producers, etc.) Social media influencers (dishers) are encouraged to register their blog, podcast or videocast for free, including their specific and preferred topics, products and communication practices. Tippers will receive a list of specific dishers who looked at their information and another on the results of the campaign.

At the end of the weekend, the core of roughly 25 Houstonians will not only have created a new company, but will own founder’s share of stock in the enterprise.

Peace Out!

On second thought, I’m resigning from MetroBlog. Doesn’t seem like many people want me here and I’d rather spend less time online anyway due to the pain I’m in.

It’s been fun!

Thanks for letting me be a part of this and for putting up with my rants.

THANK YOU PETA!!!

According to the LA Times and the AP newswire:

“An animal rights group says Alicia Silverstone appears naked in a television ad promoting vegetarianism that was to debut Wednesday in Houston. The 30-second ad was to air about two dozen times in Houston on Wednesday, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said.

PETA said Houston was picked for the commercial’s launch because it is often high on lists of cities with unhealthy eating habits. Houston was named the sixth fattest city in the nation by Men’s Fitness magazine this year.

Silverstone is shown emerging from a swimming pool and talking about the benefits of being a vegetarian. She obscures the view of her body with her arms as she gets out of the pool, PETA said.

“I wasn’t always a vegetarian, but I’ve always loved animals,” the 30-year-old actress said in a statement. “Physically, the effect has been amazing.”

Hey, I am for any organization that brings us more naked women. Oh, and don’t eat fido or fluffy either.
