2006 Houston Dragon Boat Champions!

d9.JPGI hate to say I told you so, but, I told you so

For the second year in a row, the Asia Society Young Professionals Team are champions of the 6th Annual Houston Dragon Boat Festival & Race! The winning time for the final race was 1:01 against the team from El Paso Energy.

The front page of today’s Chronicle has a photo of our team paddling to victory!!

But despite the weather glitch, it was a great turnout at Allen’s Landing with more than six Dragon Boat teams competing for the Championship. Opening ceremonies included welcoming remarks from the Texas Dragon Boat Association, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, [everyone’s favorite] former City Council Member Gordon Quan, Carol Alvarado and Mayor Bill White.

For anyone unfamiliar with Dragon Boat Racing in Houston, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a great way to be a part of a team, get some exercise and gain appreciation for Houston’s parks along Buffalo Bayou. Plus, the renovations to Buffalo Bayou from Sabine to beyond Allen’s Landing in Downtown are beautiful – to my fellow runners of Houston, we have a new running route!
