It was three years ago today

… that I moved to Houston from Brownsville, Texas. Before Brownsville, I lived in San Francisco, CA. And before that, I lived in Philadelphia, PA. I could go on and on, but what I really want to say is: I freaking love living here!

If you are not a native Houstonian… where are you from and how long ago did you move here?

People such as Brittanie have the reversed assignment: How long have you been away from your beloved homeland?

I grew up and spent 22 years in Oklahoma before I moved to Houston. I love Houston, no matter what anybody else who lives in Austin or California or wherever says about it.

I also love Korea though. Oklahoma, I hate.

I love Houston. I have lived here for 11 years. When I moved here I told myself I would just live here for three years to get some experience in my profession and then look for a job in San Antonio. I have never looked back and I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather live.

I’ve been here…. hmmm…. 4 years. It wasn’t so swell at first – probably because I lived in Conroe and Montgomery, but now I LOVE LOVE it. Houston is so much fun, and I completely adore my Heights/Montrose neighborhood. This probably won’t be my final stopping point, but for now (and at least a few more years) it’s a great place to call home.

My only complaints – Where are the good deli’s? Why are there only like 4 bagel places in town? I need more hole-in-the-wall pizza joints!!! Why does Cactus have to close!!?? Otherwise, I’m golden (although on second thought it is weird that my only concerns are about food…)

Been here a bit less than 15 years now. Moved here from St. Cloud, MN — More than happy to call Houston my home :)

Katya: that isn’t weird at all — and it would be good to know where some great pizza places are.

I’m a native Houstonian and have lived here most of my life, except for the 8 years I was in the Navy & traveling around the world. I’d have to say that Houston has many fine things but also has many problems or flaws as well.

Came here for grad school having everybody telling me how awful the place is. Now I love it so much I don’t want to leave. Where have I lived before? NYC, D.C., Pittsburgh, Atlanta. They can’t compare to Houston’s great weather (I’d rather live in a Houston August than a NYC January any day of the week!), almost scandously low cost-of-living, great cultural diversity, wonderful restaurants, and solid cultural attractions. I can no longer imagine life without Goode Co., the original Mama Ninfas on Navigation, the MFAH, and paying under $600 a month for an apartment around the corner from the Menil. Awesome place, never want to leave. Can’t believe it has such a bad reputation . . . I wonder why that is?
