Popular Houston Night-spot expands, as FBI begins new construction…

Popular Houston night sport, Carnaval, has agreed to purchase an abandoned auto dealership on Bellaire Boulevard, close to Sharpstown mall. Residents in the area are outraged, having hoped that the location would go towards a new grocery or retail center. City counselman M.J. Kahn criticized the sale, Saturday, and has vowed to fight any expansion by Carnaval. Earlier this year, Kahn asked the TABC (Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission) to revoke Carnaval’s liquor license, citing high crime. Carnaval has seen its share of crime over the years, including numerous gang-related indicents. (reference)

Additionally, in Houston this week, the FBI has finally broken ground on a long-planned new headquarters for its Houston-area office. In a standard piece of propoganda, the FBI requested that the city council change the address of the new complex from 4651 Northmont Plaza Drive, to 1 Justice Park. The council oblidges, last July. It will take two years for the new eight-story office building to be completed. Resting on a ten-acre plot of land near the Northwest Fwy and West 43rd, the FBI paid just over two million dollars for the site. Don’t care what street the FBI office is on. Anyone that ends up in an FBI office can’t be too happy about it whether they are there as a suspect, witness, etc. It could be called “play these numbers and get $10 million dollars blvd.” Nobody cares.

About Carnaval, it is a nuisance. If you listen to the police scanners on a Friday or Saturday night and see how many calls come from that place. I remember one night when HPD called for a citywide assist (meaning everybody goes) and officers from about 3 different agencies (HPD, Sheriff, and Constables) had to respond.

This entry was primarily my attempt at filling my required posting quota, and bringing some news I found interesting (complete with a minor spin). This is why the FBI bit was there.

As for Carnaval.. I do listen to a scanner, actually. Almost nightly. On Friday and Saturday nights, I forego the starnet channels and listen to JUST HPD/HFD. Usually, I’ll wind up listening to HPD Fondren (SW/Fondren), or HPD Westside.

Don’t think I was chastising you for the FBI bit. I meant that I don’t care what they name their street nor does anyone else. I agree with your propaganda comment, that’s why I may have seemed a bit harsh, but it wasn’t directed at you. Sorry about that. I should have made the clearer.

No worries, Jason. I’m a bit overly sensitive, lately. Had a lot of negative feedback directed at me (as opposed to the post/situation) on various blogs for my commentary on Proposition 2. No worries.

Way to go if the city can not block this…a bunch of drunks and druggies cruising our neighborhood. Every weekend it is one thing or another, these leople have absolutely no snap.passing out under cars and getting run over when the other drunk driver leaves. The SW Memorial hospital has seen their ER rooms packed with senseless stabbing and shootings…and our neighborhood getting trashed with all their fast food bags and beer bottles and cans trying to sober up before they take to the freeways. Just a worthless bunch. I bet the owner does not even live or want to live anywhere near this club…then again maybe she does.
