Evacuees relocate to Reliant Arena

Houston shelters seem are consolidating the remaining Katrina evacuees today and tomorrow, as the 3600 inhabitants of the Astrodome and Reliant Arena move into the Reliant Arena. I seriously hope this is the last move that most will have to make until they find permanent housing.

Volunteers are needed! Shelter officials said volunteers are needed to help move the remaining evacuees to Reliant Arena. Houstonians wanting to help should show up at the parking lot off Kirby Street at McNee Road and meet at the volunteer banner.

Meanwhile, New Orleans officials are already preparing the French Quarter and surrounding areas for re-opening next week. Wow – so tourists will be able to get drunk in the streets while 40-50% of the city is still flooded and government tests show remaining floodwaters contain dangerous bacteria and industrial chemicals? Hmmm…..
