Heeeeeeeeey Austin!

Many Houstonians have heard about the potential economic windfall of businesses moving their operations (office and warehouse) to Houston in the wake of the New Orleans flooding.

But what about the arts scene? I was speaking with a consultant in Austin yesterday who mentioned that many of the musicians and

    I live in Austin and I totally concur. I’ve actually spoken with many musicians from New Orleans who are presently living in our convention center and most of them are planning on staying here, at least for a while until they can collect enough money to go back. Many are looking for gigs already and most of those have found them. There are a few businesses and individuals who have donated instruments to replace those lost to the flood and many local musicians are participating in impromptu jam sessions with the displaced musicians at local dives. This diaspora of artists, though unfortunate, will prove to be very serendipitous for the city’s culture, especially the music scene.
