Comida Cubana
Hi everyone – this being my first entry and since favorite restaurants have been listed in another post, I thought I’d tell you guys where to find the best, most authentic Cuban food in town. Make your way to Cafe Piquet off of Bissonnet right outside the Loop in the Bellaire area.
My favorite dishes are the huge bistec empanizado (the thinly sliced filet is larger than the plate – be sure to squeeze some lime on it for an even better taste) and the ropa vieja (literally means “old clothes” since it looks somewhat like a pile of old clothes). Portions are good and almost everything comes with a side of black beans & rice and yucca or plantains. Finish dinner with a tres leches or a flan and of course an espresso.
Don’t take my word for it – ask my Cuban mother and her friends who are regulars here.
