I know Jonathon from the podcasting world, he has had some of his tracks played on Riding with the window down… as well as the Pod Music Countdown, and I can guarantee you will enjoy the music. On top of his musical talent, he is a real nice guy. Jonathon gets back together with the full band next Saturday, August 11th. They are playing at Notsuoh in downtown Houston. If you get out to either of these gigs, buy him a beer and tell Jonathon that Cdogg says “Hi.”

After seeing the success of my Grand Master Flash video on YouTube I figured I should start uploading a few more that I’ve done so that everyone can enjoy them. Last night I finally got around to editing, converting and uploading my video from the Polk St. Warehouse DEF TRAP Hip-Hop show that went down on January 21 of 2006. There were a lot of people there and it was a killer show. Unfortunately I was late and was only able to record the tail end of the show and the following battle. For those of you who were there, please send these out to your friends and for those of you who weren’t, if you like Hip-Hop I highly recommend checking these out. Enjoy!

All you Wu-Tang fans get ready for another Scion LiveMetro show with GZA the Genius May 30th from 9:30pm – 2am at the Engine Room (813 Emanuel St.).

KRTU Outdoor Show

The KTRU Outdoor Show is coming and this year’s is going to be excellent.

Featuring Ratatat, the Dimes, Despot and 120 Days, the event will be free, all-ages and held at Rice University on Saturday, April 7th. Bring your sunscreen, your shades and your ears and have a good time. Music starts at 3 PM and will be held on intramural fields 2 & 3. For more information, check out KTRU’s website at ktru.org.

Hometown Heroes Save the Day

When the little rascals (Rascall Flatts) pulled out of their show at the tonight’s Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, three cowboys rode in to save the day. Apparently, the lead singer for RF had sumfin’ wong wif his wittle fwoat. Joe Nichols along with Houstonians Jack Ingram and Clay Walker stepped up to the challenge of a last second call and delivered in fine fashion.

Joe Nichols started things off with some of his hits and a few of the lesser known tracks, but sound issues early on hurt the performance. Jack Ingram shocked the house by turning in the best performance. It was obvious that he was excited to have the opportunity to play at the rodeo in front of his hometown… excited enough that despite being in New York City at 1:30 PM, he still made it in plenty of time to rock the house. The night ended up with Houston favorite – Clay Walker. As usual, he turned in a fine performance, and as usual, the fans loved it.

By the end of the evening, I don’t think there was a person in the stadium who remembered the name Rascall Flatts.

Hey there Houstonians, I’m the second new author to the Houston Metblog and thrilled to be here!
Let’s get down to business: Damien Rice is coming to Houston on May 8th at the Verizon Wireless Theater. I’m psyched about seeing him live but wondering how the venue will hold up. It’ll be my first trek to Verizon and I’m hoping it’ll be up to par with the Toyota Center.

Noise & Smoke

For those of you unwilling or unable to attend SXSW out in Austin, fear not!

Tonight and tomorrow you can just pretend you’re at Stubb’s or Emo’s. Notsuoh and the Axiom are hosting Houston’s own Noise and Smoke Festival. With plenty of good music and sure to be a good atmosphere, bands such as Bring Back the Guns, Satin Hooks, Indian Jewelry and the Sporatics will bring the noise to Space City and console us Houstonians who can’t shell out the bucks for a badge to the upcoming Austin festival.

Come on out and raise a Lonestar to Texas’ own “not quite as weird” city. $8, all ages, music starts at 6pm Friday night and 8pm Saturday.
