It has been a rather long time n’est ce pas? I shall try to make this a weekly thing now…really I will. :)

Well - to sum it up briefly: I garnered a new full-time job and have been busily working and whatnot. I am currently the Assistant Produciton Coordinator for a new television court show filiming here in Houston for Fox. It’s been keeping me busy to say the least.

Show and tell for today:

I recently discovered a new band who has pushed their way to the top of my favorites list - Pitty Sing. With a lead singer orginally from Great Britain, the band formed in Boston and is currently in New York. Any fan of the Breakfast Club or any of the fabulous 80s movies will hear their music and immediately recall favorite scenes from those movies. A modern twist on 80s synth/pop with great melodies and songs. I HIGHLY recommend giving this band a listen and I just hope and hope and hope they come down to Houston.

Now, this isn’t like the curse of the Chicago Cubs or of the Red Sox…those are much longer and have much more history behind them.

The Astros, for the first time in franchise history, won a post-season playoff series. For many, this may not be a big deal, but for our fair city - it gives us something to cheer about. For the past few years, we’ve come to not expect much from our sports teams. Not since the glory days of the Rockets with Olajawon and Drexler, have we been so involved in the chase for a championship. Mainly because we’ve never gotten as close.

I’d go on and on…but I don’t want to jinx it. I couldn’t even watch the game last night except for a few seconds at a time, fearing that by my watching it, I’d curse our good luck. Call it superstition. Call it stupidity. Call it both.

Congrats to our Astros and bring on St. Louis!!

Game Time: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 7:00pm CT

According to the Channel 2 (KPRC), they’ll be some beach erosion and a possibility of rain and strong winds.

According to CNN, we could be hit sometime tonight or Friday along the coast as it may strengthen today with the warm Gulf waters.

According to me - I walked outside today to perfectly clear skies with no clouds and the sun shining brightly.

Hmmmmm……I’m still confused. Maybe it would have been better had I continued to not watch the news.

well, not anymore. But they were. As I headed off to my part-time job off of I-10 and the beltway, I experienced a plethora of weather experiences coming down the Katy freeway from highway 6. I left my house near West Oaks Mall to sunshine and fluffly clouds. A block further to pick up dry cleaning (which turned out someone had already picked up) and dark clouds began encroaching my view.

Go down further down past Westheimer…….some sprinkles begin to fall upon my car. Hit Memorial - we got a full blown thunderstorm, pouring down. At this point, I’ve taken off my sunglasses. As soon as I get on the entry ramp to I-10, its stopped raining and the sun is peeking out. Pass two exits - its pouring down again…but only for about 100 feet.

It then finally stops at the beltway where it is partly sunny with some lingering clouds. Sunglasses are back on at this point.

Only here could u get the full weather experience in 10 minutes. I guess even nature understands you need something to amuse you while sitting in traffic.

Now granted it is a Monday and the start of another week in the life of a yet-to-be fully employed member of productive society. But I believe it is never to early to begin the search for the perfect weekend bar. I have come to find that as one gets older, bars and/or pubs become preferred over the clubbing of our youth. There’s something comforting about sitting back at a comfortable table with friends, throwing back a few beers, and singing along with the local band a cover of the song “I want you to want me.”

Some of places I’ve frequented include Bryan O’Neils, Little Woodrows, Sam’s Boat, The Ginger Man, and every other place in the quaintly known “Village”. This past weekend was spent at Outback Pub - a place I had forgotten about. The crowd may have been a little less to my liking in comparison to other places - but cheap beer and good company of friends and at 1am, we were singing at the top of our lungs the words to “I’m just a girl” by No Doubt. A good night overall.
