Welcome to Houston Revealed #24. We’ve had a busy week since our last post. First congratulations to Eric Nordstrom for figuring out that Revealed #22 was taken at Annunciation Catholic Church. I thought the leafless trees might throw people off considering it is the middle of summer, but Eric persevered.

Congratulations also go to Patrick Winkler for answering #23, the Mellie Esperson building. Patrick remembered this detail even though he hasn’t been in downtown Houston for years! Patrick, what are you taking for your memory and can I have some? And take note that the Mellie Esperson building was the FIRST building in Houston to have central air conditioning. Leave it to a woman!

This is my swan song for Houston Revealed. I just want to take this moment to thank Paul Chavez for asking me to help him with his brain child. I learned so much about downtown from taking pictures and following the contest. I love Houston and our great downtown and I hope that this has inspired you to get out there and explore.

There could be nothing easier than this picture. I want every one of you to write in. Fill our mail box and tell us what it is. Even if you are not first, show me that you know it, because I know you do.

I’m waiting to hear from you. Email Houston Revealed with the answer.

P.S. Before next week, somebody please go down to the theater district. Park in the garage. Go to street level and walk around looking for this metal sculpture. Let’s have a perfect run for Houston Revealed.

The end is near! Prepare! Well, the end of Houston Revealed. We are doing a great job of wrapping things up here at the end. Congratulations to Christopher Holly for correctly identifying Revealed #21 as The Rice Hotel. Christopher also put the detective skills to work to figure out Revealed #15 as the Great Southwest Life Building. That is two more times that his name will go into the hat for our final prize drawing. The last prize up is a personal tour of the backstage workings of the Wortham Theater Center from the Wortham

It’s about time. Houston is finally getting its second Apple store. Or I guess I should say the Houston area because it is in The Woodlands. The Dallas area has had two stores for a while now. And even though I am happy that there is another Apple location in the area, I think it is probably like the Galleria one. Smallish. Can someone from The Woodlands confirm this for me? Does it have a theater? Bigger or smaller than the Galleria one?

So tomorrow is the Grand Opening in The Woodlands. The first 1000 people get a free Apple T-shirt. You also have a month to get up to the store and sign up for a Grand Opening Prize package including a iMac G5 and iPod, a camera, printer and camcorder.

Here is the information for the store including hours, a map and driving directions.

Well folks, we are in the home stretch. There are only five more Houston Revealeds left, so if you haven’t taken a stab at one of our photos, now is your chance. I hear a rumor that it might actually be sunny this weekend so you should get out and explore downtown!

Before we continue with #20, we have some acknowledgments. First congratulations to Chris Sunstrom for correctly identifying last week’s entry as the Julia Ideson building (the old library). AND we finally had a correct guess for Houston Revealed #6! Nancy Zamarron identified the location of the picture as Minute Maid Park. Whew. So we only have two pictures that haven’t been identified. I have a feeling that Chris Loudermilk will identify #15, but so far no takers on #14. It is hard and I’ll narrow it down and tell you that you should be looking in the theater district area. How’s that! I’m going soft here at the end!

On with this week’s photo. This was actually one of the very first ones that I took when we were discussing the idea. And here it is at the end. Do you know where this is?

I am proud to announce a new gathering place for Houston photographers and bloggers. Houston Photobloggers. This site was developed in conjunction with Photoblogs.org and is a part of the Photobloggers.org network.

So, what is a photoblog? In a typical blog, the author uses words to express themselves. In a photoblog, the primary form of expression is photographs. Like text blogs, entries are posted on a regular basis. The posts are listed in chronological order with the most recent photo shown on the main page of the photoblog.

Photoblogging is a great way to improve your skills because you are forced to shoot regularly to keep the blog updated. It is also a way for your photographs and your vision to be seen by other people. There is a very large photoblogging community world wide that is very open to helping everyone grow as photographers.

Houston Photobloggers is just getting started, but we look forward to becoming a resource for all Houston photographers. If it is related to Houston, photography or blogging, we will probably be discussing it. We are already sharing our photographs with each other and will eventually be getting together for some group photography shoots.

If you have a photoblog, interested in starting one, love photography or are
just curious, drop by the site and check it out. We will be happy to answer any questions you have.

I want to thank my fellow site administrators, Saroy and Ninds, for putting up with my craziness and Houston Metroblogging Captain, Katie, for her support of our site.

So are you wondering what to do TONIGHT (Thanks Katie). Something different, something fun, something FREE. How about watching The Goonies on an outdoor screen? Yes, The Goonies! You know:

Sloth: Hey, you guys!

Mama Fratelli: The only thing we serve here is tongue! You boys like tongue?

Mikey: You idiot you glued it on upside down.
Chunk: It looks fine to me.

Irene Walsh: Now, Rosalita, this is the attic. Mr. Walsh doesn’t like anybody up here, ever. I guess that’s why it’s always open.
Mouth: Translation – never go up there. It’s filled with Mr. Walsh’s *sexual torture devices*.

Stef: Data where are you going?
Data: I’m setting booty traps.
Stef: You mean booby traps?
Data: THATS WHAT I SAID! BOOBY TRAPS! God. These Guys!

Do you have a favorite Goonies line or moment? Tell me about it.

Miller Outdoor Theatre has a new Starlight Cinema Series which is sponsored by Young Audiences of Houston. They will be showing family friendly movies up on Miller Theatre’s big screen. And best of all, it is free. TONIGHT, The Goonies.

They will also be showing movies October 21st, 28th and 29th.

You can find the October schedule here.

Welcome to another week of Houston Revealed. We are already on #18. Thank you to everyone who has participated thus far. Congratulations to Christopher Holly who correctly guessed last week’s entry as the Bank One Center. Our main goal for this project is to get people to take a moment and really see downtown Houston. There is a lot to offer and I personally have discovered so much looking for sneaky pictures to take.

So, here is this week’s entry. I’ll accept several different answers on this one. You can tell me what it is, where it is or what building is next door. Good luck. Think creatively.
