It’s starting to look a little dark outside over here on the north side, boys and girls. Rita’s on her way.

I’ve showered, had dinner, and I’ve got my car under the carport over at my aunt’s house next door, so I guess that’s as prepared as I can be.

I know lots of people who stayed in town, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that everything goes well for all of us.

Monday Nights at The Continental Club

Just a reminder that The El Orbits (multi time winner of the Houston Press Award’s Best Cover Band title) is back to playing their regular Monday night gig at the Continental Club on Main Street.

As always, there’s no cover, $2 Lone Star pints, and $3 maritinis. There’s also an hour of tango piana music by Glover Gil before the boys take the stage.

If you’ve never been to The Continental Club or heard The El Orbits play, you’re seriously missing out on one of the best things to do in Houston. I may be biased due to my fangirl crush on David Beebe, but they really are awesome.

The Return of The El Orbits

This Monday marks the return of Monday nights with The El Orbits at Houston’s very own Continental Club.

While bingo won’t (and may never) be back, the boys will be bringing their very own blend of retro, cool, and cover songs to the stage for a three hour, non-stop set. As always, there’s no cover, $2 Lone Star pints, and $3 maritinis.

If you do come out, look for me and my friends so we can say hi and absorb you into our weekly gathering! I’ll be the one in the “There’s no religion but sex and music” t-shirt.

Tuesday Means Trivia!

Every Tuesday The Flying Saucer has trivia night. My team, Team Geek, has been kicking ass and is coming off of another first place finish.

If you’d like to join us, feel free to meet us at the corner of Capitol and Main downtown. If you don’t know me, this is what I look like.

Geeks usually rock at trivia, so come and help us get another first place finish! There’s even free beer and food involved for winners!

2005 Blogathon

It’s that time of year again - the time of year where bloggers all over the world blog every half hour for twenty-four hours straight to raise money for charity.

Last year I participated and raised over $400 for my charity, Heifer International and I would love to raise even more.

It’s a new season (supposedly) down here in Houston, so that means it’s time for another Burn It CD exchange!

Since it’s really freaking hot, the theme for this Burn is hot music. And by this I mean music so sensual, so sexy, so scorching (like all the s words?), that it makes you hot, just like you too were out in the Texas sun. This would be the music you would want playing in the background if you were really into someone to go with the sexual tension in the air.

Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way

On July 6th, Bruce Campbell, the star of such cult classics as The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, and The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. will be in town signing his latest book Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way before showing his latest movie “Man with the Screaming Brain” at the River Oaks Theatre. I missed him when he was in town signing If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a “B” Movie Actor and I’ve regretted it ever since.

Bruce is talking and doing a Q&A at 6:00, with the signing around 6:40. “Man with the Screaming Brain” will then be shown at 10:00. More information can be found at the Murder by the Book signing page. Seating is limited for the speaking engagement, so I’m going to try and arrive around 5:00 or so.

A Gathering of Geeks

This Friday marks the monthly Geek Gathering at Kaveh Kane’s at 7:30.

For those not in the know, the GG is when all the geeks that listen to Technology Bytes (every Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on 90.1 FM KPFT) and/or hang out in their IRC channel get together to revel in their geekiness. The unofficial plan is to go to the Flying Saucer afterwards and then possibly Twelve Spot or Dean’s.

Should be a lot of fun, so if you can make it, please come out. Katie and I would love to meet you!
