Update: I’ve found out that this site was done pro-bono by a marketing firm although it doesn’t seem that the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau is that thrilled with it. LOL.

I recently heard about the play The Rice over at The Main Street Theater and am very curious to hear reviews on it. Has anyone read or heard or even seen the play yet? The one review I found was lukewarm and I couldn’t really tell if it was worth seeing or not.

Any thoughts? The story sounds intriguing enough… “Found in the abandoned front office of the old Rice Hotel: a file containing a photograph of a beautiful woman, an unpaid room bill totaling hundreds of dollars for Mrs. Ike West, Jr., and a letter exposing her as a fraud. From these fragments reporter Jeff Millar has constructed a fascinating story - part fact, part fiction - of how that mystery woman spent those seven days in 1957.”

The statues will be here till October 21st and are all located in the shopping area off of Buffalo Speedway and Westpark (SW corner). There is a Buca di Beppo and a Kroger’s located there.

Hi everyone - this being my first entry and since favorite restaurants have been listed in another post, I thought I’d tell you guys where to find the best, most authentic Cuban food in town. Make your way to Cafe Piquet off of Bissonnet right outside the Loop in the Bellaire area.

My favorite dishes are the huge bistec empanizado (the thinly sliced filet is larger than the plate - be sure to squeeze some lime on it for an even better taste) and the ropa vieja (literally means “old clothes” since it looks somewhat like a pile of old clothes). Portions are good and almost everything comes with a side of black beans & rice and yucca or plantains. Finish dinner with a tres leches or a flan and of course an espresso.

Don’t take my word for it - ask my Cuban mother and her friends who are regulars here.
