Van Gonedy

RocketsLogo.gifThe Jeff Van Gundy era of the Houston Rockets has come to an end. The first round loss to the Utah Jazz, despite an early lead in the series, appeared to be the final straw. Van Gundy was offered another job (consulting) with the team, but reportedly turned that down.

The one thing that seemed to be missing during his tenure as head coach was the “clutch” that made Clutch City famous – a 44-44 (7-12 with Rockets) postseason record just doesn’t get the job done. Despite having some excellent players at his disposal over the past few years, they just never seemed to put it all together under Van Gundy. Critics have pointed to his work ethic in practice causing more problems than they addressed, as injuries were seemingly a larger part of his teams that any of the previous Rockets’ regimes.

The only name being mentioned as the next coach for the franchise is former San Diego Rockets player and current Portland Trailblazers head coach, Rick Adelman.
