Please help
I’m working on completing this year’s Best of Houston entry form and I need some help filling out some of the categories. Here’s where I’m stuck:
- Best Bureaucrat?
- Best Drag Queen?
- Best place to people watch?
- Best adult video store?
I don’t know crap about sports, so I just skipped over that section. I’m really stuck on the “people watch” category because there are too many places to observe the species.
Some places that receive considerable attention (on my ballot at least) include the Mucky Duck (best bar, best bar food, best concert venue), Ruggle’s (best french fries, best hamburgers), and Prince’s (best milkshakes, best burger joint).
Dude. Where the hell is everyone these days?

I’m still kinda partial to last year’s winner - Taco Cabana at Westheimer and Montrose. Though I do enjoy sitting outside at Shay McElroy’s on a Saturday night - especially if the pimp is out. That guys is great!
Best drag queen, why I know this is beyond me, but that would have to be Venezuela Maria Concepcion de los Angeles Valdez Valejo Gonzales of Diverse Works.
I second the Mucky Duck, having went there for the first time lsat Wednesday. I’m a new transplant from Lake Charles.
However, I’d vote “Best Beer Menu” is at the Flying Saucer.
Hey Chris! Welcome to Houston dude. I agree that the Flying Saucer has EXCELLENT choices for beer. Actually, there’s quite a few places that have fantastic beer selections… such as Richmond Arms.
Best Bureaucrat?
Working at home via the internet and phone, I don’t have to deal with a lot of bureaucrats anymore… so I’d have to vote for the Boss on ‘The Office” on tv, or the people who work at the office where you pay for your car registration every year (before I learned to do it thru the mail). Or, any grocery store employee in Philadelphia.
Best Drag Queen? Don’t remember her name because I’m usually more interested in the strippers, but the girl at EJ’s is priceless, classic, and I hope still around. Please, no high-brow art store drag queens
Best place to people watch? Brazil: from the car, on Dunlavy, stopped at the light at Westheimer. Even at one-thousand-degrees outside in mid-August, there are people sitting on the patio.
Best adult video store? Too old to even remember where they are…………..
Thanks for the tips Don! I can’t believe the Office won an Emmy the other night. I mean, it’s decent… but not THAT decent. I still prefer the British version over the American one. Perhaps I’m a snob like that?
