Heights Target store now open

Please try and remain calm, Houston Heights residents — but the new Target store (2580 Shearn St) is now open for your shopping pleasure.

We stumbled across a parking lot full of shoppers this weekend, as it had a ‘quiet opening’ before today’s grand opening. It was an exciting moment, as this means Target bliss is now only a moment’s drive away on I-10. Glorious!

You’ll notice a lot of construction near the new store – supposedly they are also putting up a Best Buy pretty soon and will have a Chick-Fil-A in the vicinity as well. I’m interested to see how the rest of the neighborhood responds to the appearance of these mega-stores (some parts have been not as positive, as noted here).

This is generally a great thing for those of us who live near. It will allow us to do some fun shopping without leaving the comfort of our ‘hood.

As far as eminent domain, I guess we’re basically powerless against it and we just all hope it doesn’t happen to us.

Target must be kicking @$$ in Houston. They’re about to open one up by me on Westheimer just west of Dunvale, and one on Eldridge near FM 1960. I also noticed both have new Home Depots nearby as well. I wonder if they’re owned by the same company?

I love Target ! They closed down the one closest to me years ago. So I had to resort to http://www.target.com or driving out of my way.

Anyone know if target is going to sponsor the bike trails from the heights to the store on the old MKT right of way? This was discussed two years ago when they announced its construction.
