Idiot kids try to loot their middle school – before the storm even hits
My first comment is this: are HISD cops REALLY police officers?
And secondly: Gone are the days when a mere search for test and homework keys would suffice. No siree – now it’s all computer this and digital camera that. I would give those delinquents a good smack with a biology text book if I were their mothers (and no, I’m not advocating child abuse…. I’m just saying).
Police are paying particular attention to places like pawn shops, gun shops and Wal-Mart for potential looting. Sounds like redneck territory to me – yeehaw, boys.
To answer your first question, yes Independent School District Police are commisioned peace officers defined by the state code of criminal procedure. In layman’s terms, yes, they are police. They can pull you over on traffic, arrest you for any offense, and carry (and have used) firearms. They have the same powers as HPD or the Sheriff’s Dept.
Second, with their primary jurisdiction being schools and property owned/managed by the school district, catching burglars stealing electronic equipment is nothing new.
I am totally naive – remembering what kind of technology my middle school (and high school come to think of it) held, I would never in a million years think that someone would break in to steal something (I feel old). Plus!! They got a few extra days off of school – you couldn’t have paid me enough (even in electronics) to go back in there until completely necessary.
Holy shit – HISD is the man too? *grin*
