Dear Rita – my how you’ve grown!

Tropical Storm Rita is now Hurricane Rita. Long-term forcasts are now saying she may not give Houston as direct a hit as originally thought, but that could really change in a matter of minutes I guess.

Cuba, Florida, Lousiana and Galveston are just some parts of the country that are planning or currently evacuating. Fun fun.

Here’s a link to a Houston Area Evacuation Map, courtesy of the Houston Office of Emergency Management.

Some things I plan on doing today, just for peace of mind: fill up the old gas tank, get some cash out of the ATM (hurricanes don’t take plastic) and clean off my front porch/garden for anything projectible/breakable. Then I’m going to compulsively check weather.com to make sure I keep track of EVERY INCH Rita moves, by jove.

Here is a FEMA checklist of What To Do before, during and after a hurricane.
