They fled here for help, are we in trouble too?

Building on Katya’s last post, what will happen if Rita comes and is as strong as Katrina? According to Rice professor Phil Bedient, among other things,

As for the 150 mph winds, they would rip the roofs off houses, snap utility poles in half and blow the windows out of every office building in Houston. It would last for hours.

Galveston is taking these warnings to heart and, depending on the path of the storm, will begin voluntary evacuations as early as tomorrow afternoon.

I guess it’s time to get our house in order and make contingency plans for what may possibly be a big storm. Hopefully, Allison and Katrina have been lessons for us. Get out of the way when Mother Nature comes calling.

UPDATE: Looks like Galveston voluntary evacuation has already begun.

    The truck will be juiced up with fuel, loaded with supplies and ready to roll if needed.
