A celebration of independence and cultures – Hispanic Heritage Month

So this is ‘white bread’ Katie reporting on Hispanic Heritage Month (which runs from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15) – an event that I, sadly, knew nothing about until reading the above La Cucaracha cartoon strip today (you can stop rolling your eyes now, really).

The University of Houston is sponsoring some events this month, including a ‘Be a Charro For a Day’ singing activity.

Other than that, I’m pretty clueless as to what else is going down around town. Seeing what an enormous impact Hispanic cultures have on our fair city in particular, there must be some neat stuff happening — suggestions??

** As a sidenote – I just noticed a couple of interesting LA Metblog posts (and another La Cucaracha comic, heh) on Hispanic Heritage Month, including a ‘what’s in a name’ discussion.
