Houston’s Music Scene benefit for Randall Calcote

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Saturday July 2nd, members of Houston’s music scene will be
gathering at SUPER HAPPY FUNLAND (2610 Ashland, in the Houston
Heights) to pay homage and raise much-needed funds for one of their
own.

RANDALL CALCOTE has been a long-time and enduring fixture in the
Houston Music Scene, both as a performer and as a behind-the-scenes
player and organizer. His career in both capacities spans over twenty
years. He was a key staff member at the now legendary PUBLIC NEWS,
which blazed the trail successfully followed by publications like
Houston’s Other and FREE PRESS HOUSTON. He later played an equally
indispensible role at seminal punk/alternative production group BFD
PRODUCTIONS, and later still went on to become one of the principals
in MONTROSE RADIO and later EARTHWIRE.NET.

As a musician, Randall has had an opportunity to jam with more people
than possibly be mentioned in this small space (although RUSTED SHUT,
OPIE HENDRIX, and SECRET BEAT SOCIETY do spring to mind), and has been
a member of groups as diverse as BACKYARD EPICS, YELLOW NUMBER SIX,
and SOUTHERN PIKES and presently plays fiddle for NINETY PROOF.

About a month ago, Randall had an unfortunate encounter with a plate
glass patio door that very nearly cost him his leg. Resilient street
survivor that he is, he’s already well on the road to recovery–it’s
going to be expensive, though, and he needs our help.

To that end, a number of Randall’s friends and past associates have
put toghether RAND-AID. Featured performers will include
OPIE HENDRIX & THE TEXAS TALLBOYS, FAHL & FOLK, SECRET BEAT SOCIETY,
MUZAK, ORGAN FAILURE, FRIENDSHIP BRACELET, KAIROS, JIMMY DEEN, and
GLENNA BELL. It’s a diverse line-up, fully representing the range and
number of people Randall Calcote has impacted in the course of his
career and his life. Not only does this event benefit a worthy cause,
it promises to be a unique and interesting evening’s entertainment.

Again, that date is Saturday July 2nd, at Super Happy Funland. For
