What’s so great about Pollo Campero?
This Guatemala-based fried chicken place has three Houston locations and I keep hearing how fantastic the chicken is. Rumors have been told to me that people MAIL the chicken to their friends because it’s so good.

Perhaps some of its success in Houston stems from the fact that it’s actually an import from a restaurant chain in Guatemala. If I were South American, possibly homesick, living in a foreign land, I might line up for a familiar taste from home, too. Then again, it could just be amazingly good food. I’ve never been.
Living proximate to at least one of the local operations, I can honestly say there’s nothing particularly wonderful about their chicken. It’s good, it’s above average, but nothing spectacular.
Well, now my curiosity is pinged… so I’ll check it out next weekend and report back to the Metroblog.
