1 day ’til St. Patty’s Day

As an Irishwoman, I’m embarassed to say that I don’t have any huge (Irish car bomb drinking) plans for St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, the holiest of pseudo-Irish holidays.

I have heard some talk of very good times at Brian O’Neill’s however — cheap Guinness, Sexiest Kilt Contests, Irish drinking song sing-alongs, traditional Celtic dancing… that could be really fun.

The Houston Press has a decent guide to some St. Patrick’s day activities – but where are you going to down your green whiskey and hunt for leprechauns tomorrow?

You Losers!

Okay… ya

14 hours

Allison returns. I just saw an add for a TNT Movie called, 14 hours. According to the website, which mostly consists of a press release:

based on the true story of a Texas hospital besieged by one of the worst storms ever to hit Houston, and the community that pulled together and raced against time to ensure that hundreds of patients were successfully evacuated.

I think in the commercial they said it was a hurricane instead of a tropical storm. I mean who would ever believe that a tropical storm could cripple a city so. It should be good cheesy drama fun. Mark your calendars: Sunday, April 3rd at 7 p.m.

Celebrating a land of festivals born out of ancient traditions, Houston

semi-smokefree

Anyone have any thoughts on the city’s half-hearted smoking ban? Will it do any good? Will it do any harm? And has anyone noticed the funny link in the comments section of HoustonSmokingBan.org?

Houston Revealed Photo #1

Welcome to week #1 of the Houston Revealed Photo Hunt.

Each week Laanba and I will post a new photo of some mystery spot in the downtown area. You, my fellow blog reader, will need to let us know where the photo was taken. For example, last week we showed you photos of the top of the CenterPoint building and the door handle of the Wortham.

Sounds simple, right? Laanba and I will be keeping track of who is guessing the most correct answers. Those who guess correctly will be eligible for a PRIZE!

Prizes include gift certificates for restaurants downtown or a personalized guided tour of the backstage of Houston Grand Opera.

Alright… here

Village Table Open House

Village Table, which I mentioned a few weeks ago, will be having an open house this weekend. So if you were curious about how it works here is the perfect opportunity to check it out. From the newsletter:

Next Saturday, March 12, you’ll get a chance to make a meal to take home.

Houston Revealed Preview

Something new is coming to Houston Metroblog. Houston Revealed. Beginning in March and continuing until late September, a new photo will be posted each Wednesday evening featuring a small piece of notable architecture from the downtown area. Participants will guess the location of the photo and email their answers to the contest address provided. The first correct answer will be selected as the weekly winner and weekly winners will be eligible for prizes at the end of the contest period. Think of it as a downtown scavenger hunt.

The idea behind Houston Revealed is to encourage people to notice the beautiful and unique structures which make up downtown Houston.
