semi-smokefree
Anyone have any thoughts on the city’s half-hearted smoking ban? Will it do any good? Will it do any harm? And has anyone noticed the funny link in the comments section of HoustonSmokingBan.org?

It will do some good, but not much. It’ll be too hard to properly enforce. For instance, Cafe Artiste - my favourite cafe - does not technically have a “bar area.” However, their entire building (save two tables) is currently “smoking.” They serve alcohol (wines and beers), and have a “bar” (coffee bar). It’s a technicality, but - from what I understand - with the wording of the law, they could stay as they are with no problems.
As a smoker, I don’t agree with the ban, but I do agree something needed to be done. Smoking sections are infringing upon non-smoking sections, more and more. Too many places have open-air between smoking and non-smoking. A smoking section in a seperate room, preferably with seperate air handlers would be sufficient, but so few places bother.
I could go for hours, but I won’t.
