I’m new to podcasting myself - but just installed iLife with a nice new version of garageband last night. Fun in sun (or gloomy rain, as it now happens to be). $40 ain’t that steep - plus, among other things, you get a new version of iphoto that’s friendlier with ipod photos than the old one.
Grrrrr to bad/indifferent restaurant service….. I’ve done those jobs too and still don’t see how a little courtesy/thoughtfulness is such an impossible things sometimes. Maybe I just liked getting bigger tips?

I listen to some podcasts, and have even mucked around with planning for a weekly one (Pagan News Network, or somesuch like that.. or just perhaps my own take on general crap going on around the world).
I have a PC, myself, and am planning on using Audacity for my audio editing. It’s free, and powerful. As for feed serving, I’m hoping bittorrent will suffice. Either that, or I’ll have to convince my webhost that giving me free unlimited bandwidth is a good thing.
In juxtaposition to your “crappy restaurant alert” might I tell you about an “UNcrappy restaurant alert,” for the next time you are in the mood for the following-GOOD food: burgers, turkey burgers, buffalo burgers, chicken tenders, gyros, pretty good root beer, shakes, etc…NW Grill inside of NW Mall (61 and 290). Used to be Tommy’s. And the service is pretty good too, especially for being inside of a mall. Go there and eat and you will go back…….
